All students want to pass their semester exams on the first attempt and graduate with high marks. Some students are able to do this, but others need to retake some of their courses. KNUST supplementary exams offer students a chance to recover from any setbacks and pass their courses.
If you have failed one or more courses in KNUST, you may be eligible to resit the exams for those courses. Resit exams are also known as supplementary exams.
These exams are available to all students, both on-campus and distance learners, who have not yet completed their academic programs or who have failed to complete them for some reason. These exams must be applied for and taken in person.

KNUST grading system: How does it work?
To calculate the CWA for a first-year and first-semester student at KNUST, divide the total weighted marks earned by the total number of credits attempted. To calculate weighted marks, multiply the percentage score for each course by the number of credit hours for that course.

What is the minimum score required for KNUST students to pass a course?
The KNUST grading system evaluates students’ marks using the CWA. This system calculates a student’s weighted average grades, which can then be expressed as a final grade in the form of a percentage.
Here’s a breakdown of the grading system:
- First class: a CWA of 70.00 and above
- Second class upper: a CWA of 60.00 to 69.99
- Second class lower: a CWA of 50.00 to 59.99
- Pass: a CWA of 40.00 to 49.99
