KNUST BA. Akan Language and Culture cut off points & requirements 2023

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) program in Akan Language and Culture. To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet specific cut-off points and requirements.

Bachelor BA Akan Language And Culture

The term “Akan” refers to the language of the Ghanaian Akan ethnic group. Additionally, it is spoken in Ghana’s central and eastern regions. Fante, Asante Twi, and Akwapim Twi are the three primary dialects of Akan that are mutually understandable. The most common dialect is Asante Twi. Students who complete the curriculum will be knowledgeable in Fante, Nzema, or Twi literature and culture.

Admission Requirements

Senior High School Certificate: Applicants should possess a Senior High School Certificate or its equivalent recognized by the National Accreditation Board of Ghana.

Subject Requirements: Candidates should have a strong background in relevant subjects, which may include Akan Language, English, and other related courses.

Cut Off Points: The university considers specific aggregate scores during the admission process. The cut off point is 20 for this program.

WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS entry requirements

Core Subjects: Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science Elective Subjects: Credit passes in THREE (3) including Akan (Asante Twi, Fante, and Akuapem Twi) and any TWO from History, Geography, Literature in English, French, Economics, Religious Studies, Government and Business Management.

‘A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS Entry Requirements

‘O’ Level: Credit passes in FIVE (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
‘A’ Level or equivalent: Credit passes in THREE (3) subjects including French and/or Akan or any other Ghanaian Language, and any TWO (2) of the following: Literature in English, Economics, Geography, Government, History, Business Management, and Religious Studies.

MATURE APPLICANTS Entry Requirements

An applicant must be at least 25 years at the time of the application.
An applicant must also satisfy the requirements for WASSCE/SSSCE OR ‘A’ Level.

Career Opportunities For BA Akan Language And Culture

The word “Akan” describes the language of the Akan ethnic group in Ghana. It is also spoken in the central and eastern parts of Ghana. The three main Akan languages that are mutually understood are Fante, Asante Twi, and Akwapim Twi. Asante Twi is the most often used dialect. The program will provide students with understanding of Fante, Nzema, or Twi literature and culture. Graduate from his program can pursue careers in the humanities and for fields such as comparative literature, religious/ diaspora studies, African cinema, developmental practices, humanitarian services, language learning businesses, translations & interpretation for United Nations organizations and other international agencies, to mention just a few.
